Where I live.
I make my home in Canada but lived in Pusan, South Korea for seven years.
What I do.
For over 20 years, I worked with language learners and immigrants of all ages as an English teacher. This was a beloved career path, which I get the opportunity to do casually. Unfortunately, due to the Pandemic, government restrictions on international students, and health issues, the season for teaching as a full-time career has come to a close. While a teacher, I published teaching plans with TESOL Press and two text books with Oxford University Press. Signals 3 and Signals 2.
One of the biggest compliments readers leave in reviews is my world building. Having lived and worked cross-culturally for a couple decades has definitely influenced how I craft my story worlds.
What I write and why I write fantasy.
I have always been a HUGE fan of fantasy. As a person who is highly creative, fantasy provides an outlet to stretch one’s imagination. Whether it is re-envisioning an established fantasy character, dreaming up a new species, or creating a world, fantasy offers an endless space to explore without limits. Another fun aspect of fantasy, is the ability to organically weave themes and metaphors into the narrative. I love reading a book where the themes and metaphors are a subtle part of the narrative.
As an author, my goal is to provide books readers love to read. There is nothing more satisfying than getting lost in a good story, falling in love with characters, and wanting to one day meet totally made up places and people. (I still hope to visit Narnia and meet Aslan.)
I categorize my books as sweet/clean romance and light fantasy. Initially, I started writing YA, but that genre has a lot of diversity, so I recategorized my books.
